From 20th May – 8th October 2017 the Children’s Biennale is taking over the National Gallery of Singapore. It’s a brilliant celebration of the world of art and creativity all with the young and young at heart in mind. So of course we had to go and see what it’s all about! Typically the words “art gallery” fill me with dread when it comes to the kids. Who finds pleasure in an afternoon spent non-stop shushing and hissing threats at kids with zero appreciation or patience for art? Not me. Someone somewhere knows this feeling oh too well, clearly, because…

I’d like to think I have always been fairly honest when talking about my struggle to adjust to expat life. I haven’t ever tried to sugar coat it, nor have I deliberately been negative about it. I’ve tried to share – some would say overshare – the up’s and down’s of life once the dust settles. Some have embraced the conversation, others have set out to completely invalidate my feelings. Here we go. A snap election has been called and suddenly social media is on fire with pseudo-political statements from people who are just a little bit bored of the same-old conversations, broken promises and gurning grins from the folk in charge. I’m part of the generation that grew up watching Tony Blair take us into a war nobody seemed convinced about,…

I don’t know if it was because I had overly high hopes for this place, or because it was quite hot, or because it was Sunday and therefore teeming with other families and tourists, but for us Gardens By The Bay was a bit of a disappointment. Yes, the kiddie area is pretty good- in fact if it wasn’t for the adventure course, tree house play area and water play we would probably swear to never return here. It’s just not (in our opinion) as good as other places to go in Singapore. Having said that, it is probably well…

In amongst the booze, the food, the green and the general Irish-ness of this weekend in our adopted home, I’ve been nominated for a Blogger Recognition Award from Olivia of The Wilsons of Oz! How sweet is that? It’s one thing for someone to say they enjoy your blog, but quite another but for that someone to be a fellow expat blogger who is also figuring out life overseas with little kiddies in tow, it’s basically the greatest pat on the back I could hope for. And we all need a pat on the back now and again, right?! In…
